HEAL THE WORLD
15.06.2023 - 8.07.2023
A proposition of Mathieu Weiler
Heal the World is an exhibition conceived around the figure of Joseph Beuys, an artist who fought in the Wehrmacht and developed a “symptomatic work” rooted in the trauma of war. Throughout his career, he shaped his artistic persona in turn as a contemporary mage and an opponent of materialism, but also as a provocateur and a mystifier.
In certain situations and experiences, art can act as a balm; it can be an act of healing. The shaman-artist tends to his old wounds and, in doing so, becomes invested with a power: that of “healing the world.”
Bringing together works by Jean-Michel Alberola, Apo Baroudjian, Romain Bernini, Joseph Beuys, Corine Borgnet, Laurent Derobert, Adrien Lamm, Paul Mignard, Nelly Maurel, Anne Laure Sacriste and Mathieu Weiler, the exhibition freely brings together different artistic worlds, while each work echoes Beuys’s practice or confronts it. A dialogue emerges, whether through his preferred materials, his iconography, or his imaginary worlds.
Here you will encounter shamans, therapeutic paintings, magical formulas, equations, aviators, crosses, copper as a conduit for energy, protective felt, and hares. Perhaps the latter will tell us the story of these paintings?
